History

The name "Die Schwarze Lade | BLACK KIT" of the International Performace Art Archive goes back to the artists' meeting KONZIL. In 1981, about 70 artists from Germany and other European countries met at the invitation of the artists' houses in Stuttgart and Hamburg. For one month they lived and worked together with the aim of exploring fundamental positions in the fields of interaction, intervention, communication and performance art. Artists and interested people from the region joined them and the group grew to over 70 participants.

With the question of how to document the KONZIL, the idea of a transportable container, an ark was born - to preserve the information, ideas, documents, relics, tools, to transport them from event to event and to keep the materials present and accessible. After the KONZIL, the materials were stored in a black wooden cabinet, the "Black Council Ark", a communicative archive for interdisciplinary and interactive work that was constantly growing from then on. The BLACK KIT was born and grew into the INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART ARCHIVE. All this would have been unthinkable without the initiative and generosity of the artists who founded the Ark, donated funds and provided materials: THANKS AN HUGS!

Der Name "Die Schwarze Lade | BLACK KIT" des Internationalen Performace Art Archivs geht auf die Künstlerbegegnung KONZIL zurück. 1981 trafen sich auf Einladung der Künstlerhäuser Stuttgart und Hamburg etwa 70 Künstler*innen aus Deutschland und anderen europäischen Ländern. Einen Monat lang lebten und arbeiteten sie gemeinsam mit dem Ziel, grundlegende Positionen in den Bereichen Interaktion, Intervention, Kommunikation und Performancekunst zu erforschen. Künstler*innen und Interessierte der Region stießen hinzu und die Gruppe wuchs auf über 70 Teilnehmer*innen an.

Mit der Frage nach der Dokumentation des KONZILs entstand die Idee eines transportablen Behälters, einer Arche - um die Informationen, Ideen, Dokumente, Relikte, Werkzeuge zu bewahren, von Veranstaltung zu Veranstaltung zu transportieren und die Materialien präsent und zugänglich zu halten. Nach dem KONZIL wurden die Materialien in einem schwarzen Holzschrank, der „Schwarzen Konzils-Lade“ aufbewahrt, ein von da an ständig wachsendes, kommunikatives Archiv für interdisziplinäres und interaktives Arbeiten. Das BLACK KIT war geboren und wuchs zum INTERNATIONALEN PERFORMANCE ART ARCHIVE an. All dies wäre ohne die Initiative und die Großzügigkeit der Künstler*innen und Künstler, welche die Arche gründeten, Gelder spendeten und mit Materialien versorgten, undenkbar gewesen: THANKS AN HUGS!
